Phonics are taught from Pre-school through to Year 2. After this, children may require further support or may be ready to explore other spelling strategies and rules. Teachers in Key Stage 1 currently use a combination of National Curriculum English Appendix 1: Spelling, Letters and Sounds, Fast Phonics First, Phonic Play, LCP Phonics and TES phonics. Through combining planning material and resources, we are able to cover all the phases required by the end of year 1 when the children have a phonics screening. Rigorous planning and ongoing assessments ensure we cover the National Curriculum requirements.
